From Zero to Full Calendar: How to be a successful networker

Are you looking to increase the number of booked calls you get? In this episode of Cash In On Camera, 'The Guy Who Knows A Guy' Michael Whitehouse shares strategies and examples on how to fill your calendar, build a successful network from scratch, and then what to do when your calendar is too full from networking.

Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll hear…

▶️ [1:04] But the way I became the guy who knows a guy was that in 2014, I started by knowing nobody but I knew I needed a network. And I knew where networking happened, if not how. So, you know, it happens in networking events. So, I went to all of them. I went to every business after hours, business before hours, business during hours, line cutting, ribbon cutting, and hair cutting. I would have shown up for the opening of an envelope.
▶️ [3:56] Let me dig into that a little bit more. Just the first part, which is to give without expectation. Listen people are networking with an expectation that it's going to read lead to something now or in the medium term or in the long term. So there is an ulterior motive laid down behind it.
▶️ [5:34] If you're the right kind of coach, you're doing it for the right reasons. That I have knowledge. I know how you can clear your mindset blocks. I know how you can improve your marriage. I know how you can do whatever. And I need to get paid because I can't be a good coach living in a cardboard box. You know, if I'm spending all my time driving Uber, I can't be spending my time coaching. And if that's your mindset, then you're thinking of it as my business is a service.
▶️ [7:33] Otherwise, it's not a business, which happens a lot in the coaching industry too. Like a lot of people who are service driven. And then at the end of the day, they're not making money because they're not, others don't have again, their offer dialed in. So to your point, going back to the beginning and figuring out what it is that you do and how you offer it.
▶️ [9:02] And this happens a lot too, where people are, again, we're going on a tangent here because this is taking this a little bit off course, but just something to make this one point. Your offer does not have to be complicated. You don't have to have a complex marketing funnel in place in order to start monetizing.
▶️ [11:25] So I'll introduce to potential partners and if someone's thinking of that level, then I say, "Ah, I can also introduce you to spaces where you can find more people who are already thinking that in-network at a higher level." So it's not so much about what spaces you're in as what you're doing it. Now, obviously, you want to be in those spaces.
▶️ [13:19] So what I created was simply an open virtual coffee. So if you go to my website, you can find a link. And every Friday at 10:00 AM Eastern time, I open up a zoom room for an hour. And anyone can hop on my account, not on my calendar. Anyone can go to that link, get access to zoom room and introduce themselves.
▶️ [16:30] And the thing I like about it too, is that again, it solves the problem. As you said, a pressure valve. But it's always the problem of now I have so many calls that it's overwhelming. It's taking up a lot of my time. So doing this strategy allows you to leverage your time.
▶️ [18:29] So, there are things with automation you can do. I also have a sequence that once a week or so, when you're on my list once a week or so, you get an email first, you get email one, then two, then three. Introducing you to TEDx talks, podcasts, books, programs, you know, evergreen stuff, but once a week, here's something valuable I run across. And that's automated. So if you sign up right now, you'll get the first one.
